Day 1, SUNDAY (Meals - Lunch, Dinner)
Travelers arrive at the Charleston International Airport where we offer a complimentary shuttle to Savannah, or you may choose to arrive in Savannah and meet at our hotel, The Marshall House. After getting settled in Savannah and gathering as a group, we commence on a guided tour of the Historic District which includes numerous parks and squares. Dinner at a well-known Savannah restaurant concludes the day.
Day 2, MONDAY (Meals - Breakfast, Lunch)
This morning we ride out of Savannah’s Historic District to discover the vast history in centuries old Bonaventure Cemetery located on a bluff overlooking the Wilmington River. As we continue along the Intercoastal Waterway to the Isle of Hope, our visit to Savannah isn’t complete until we find the Wormsloe Plantation. Arguably the most iconic and most photographed location in Savannah, the Oak trees that line this road create a natural cover from the sun as they arch overhead. After a picnic lunch, guests have the remainder of the day to explore many suggested options on your own. Dinner is also on your own and we have numerous dinner recommendations to suit your cravings.
Day 3, TUESDAY (Meals - all)
The day starts with a group breakfast before we shuttle to Hilton Head Island. Here we find many bike friendly roads and trails that lead us toward the Harbour Town Lighthouse which has fantastic views and contains a vast amount of area history on its multiple levels. Next, we set off on a guided boat tour to find dolphins in the Calibogue Sound. A delicious dinner closes out the day as we watch a glorious sunset over the waters surrounding a wildlife refuge.
Day 4, WEDNESDAY (Meals - all)
Beaufort, steeped in history and charm, awaits today as we head further north up the coast. Bike through this charming area, with quiet streets, gorgeous mansions, and oak trees dripping with what is commonly called Spanish moss (the scientific name is Tillandsia usneoides which is a natural part of the ecology). After we venture through Beaufort, we make our way to the Hunting Island State Park along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. There is time this afternoon for more riding on lightly traveled roads of barrier islands or to explore Beaufort on foot or by bike as you wish. Tonight, dinner is with the group.
Day 5, THURSDAY (Meals - all)
We depart Beaufort and drive to Charleston, voted one of the top US cities by multiple sources. We ride out of Charleston, across the Ravenel Bridge with its magnificent views of Charleston Harbor, to the Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island where we stop to explore Fort Moultrie. We dine at the Obstinate Daughter before heading to Patriots Point for a boat ride to Fort Sumter, an important historic military site and location where the Civil War began. Tonight, as a group we eat at a well-known and awarded downtown restaurant.
Day 6, FRIDAY (Meals - breakfast, lunch)
After meandering by bike through historic Charleston neighborhoods to the Hominy Grill for breakfast, our route takes us across multiple bridges to Folly Beach where we temporarily leave our bikes to traverse the dunes in search of a better view of the Morris Island Lighthouse. Next, we visit the uninhabited Morris Island by boat to search for shark teeth. Guests may elect to bike back to the hotel or ride some extra miles before exploring Charleston’s Historic District as desired. This is an opportunity to take a horse-drawn carriage tour, a self-guided or guided walking tour, a bicycle taxi ride, shop on King Street or the Charleston Market, or just relax. From the hotel, a very scenic and rewarding walk takes you along the water front past the Pineapple Fountain, Rainbow Row, and The Battery to reach White Point Park which is an ideal spot to watch the sunset along the Ashley River. We have many highly-rated suggestions for dinner or nightlife on your own tonight.
Day 7, SATURDAY (Meals - breakfast, lunch)
On our last morning together, we travel to the Angel Oak tree, believed to be 400-500 years old or more with sprawling branches that stretch over 175 feet. Then we pedal to the Charleston Tea Plantation for a tour and picnic lunch. For those needing to depart earlier in the afternoon, our van will shuttle guests to the Charleston International Airport. For travelers leaving later in the day or choosing to stay additional days in Charleston, we visit the Deepwater Vineyards and Firefly Distillery for a tour and tasting before transporting guests to the Charleston International Airport or returning to downtown Charleston.
To reduce knee, shoulder, back, and neck issues associated with longer riding times, it is highly recommended guests bring their own bicycle. If you need to ship your bicycle, we are able to provide the name of a preferred partner bike shop that will professionally unpack, assemble, prepare your bicycle for the tour, and store the box for use when shipping back home. Bike shops charge a nominal fee to assemble and prepare a bike and a separate fee to break-down and repack a bike for shipment. You might also consider self-assembly and break-down of your bike by shipping to your pre-tour hotel. Most hotels will store the bicycle box during the tour but check beforehand to confirm.
If you prefer to rent a bicycle, please indicate your desire on the reservation form. There will be a charge associated with renting a bicycle that will be determined at the time of your request and dependant upon the equipment selected.
